Mumbai Terrorist Attacks: Time for Action

Hotel Taj Mahal under attack by terrorists Switching from one news channel to another, getting updates on one of the deadliest terror attacks in Mumbai, making frantic calls to loved ones to ensure their safety, it was a nightmare for everyone.

That made it difficult to write about the terror attacks on Hotel Taj, Hotel Oberoi and Nariman House, a Jewish outreach center, on the blog, there was only grief and pain all around.

When sanity begins to set in same old questions pop up, same old issues resurface, we all have been there, but nothing is being done about it! It all ends praising the resilience of Mumbai and its people, the fighting spirit, which the whole world knows about, but is that the solution?

Mumbai's Resilience or Time to take Action?

When people talk about the resilience of Mumbai, of course you can't deny that. But do we have a choice? Life has to come back to normal because if people don't go to work how will they survive in this fast-paced city, they need money to feed their families, to pay their loans etc. Rescue operation at Taj Hotel The government shouldn't sit back and think that oh, the city is strong enough, nothing can stop them. But the time has come for people to take things in their own hands. I was deeply touched when I saw most of the contacts on my Facebook, had something to say against the government and politicians in their status messages.

Honest Coverage of Mumbai Attacks

I generally detest the way TV channels broadcast news, in fact we both do, and how they hype up or sensationalise matters. But this around I came across one channel, Times Now, which was pretty vocal about the incompetence of the politicians. Commandoes airdropped Nariman House For instance when the Nariman House operation was still on at Colaba in South Mumbai, one politician, Gopinath Munde turned up at the site just when the National Security Guards were in the final stages of assault. The anchor, Arnab Goswami, blatantly remarked, what is this politician doing there? Munde wants to take undue credit just when the operation is about to succeed. It was good to see some change in the channels' approach.

I also remember this another instance when the Foreign Minister of Pakistan was giving a press conference, this anchor openly said, we don't need to hear the same old Pakistan government talk, who wants to hear a diplomat speak?

The media plays such a crucial role, if the civilians and the media join hands then things will begin to change for real.

Muslims Condemn Attacks and Rejoice as well
21-year old terrorist, Azam Amir Kasav, at VT station Mumbai
Who were the spineless cowards behind the attack? Without a second thought many people would state, some Muslim militant group. The surviving terrorist said that he belonged to Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Muslim community around the world condemned the attacks and said that such an assault is tarnishing their faith. There are some who share the same mindset as these terrorists.

In Islamic extremist Web forums, some praised the Mumbai attacks, including the targeting of Jews. A man identified as Sheik Youssef al-Ayeri said in the al-Fallujah forum, the killings are in line with Islam. "It's all right for Muslims to set the infidels' castles on fire, drown them with water .... and take some of them as prisoners, whether young or old, women or men, because it is one of many ways to beat them."

Let Peace Prevail

The people of Mumbai, who make the city and who are the real heroes, speak the same language. They all want peace and harmony. There is no room for cowardice acts of senseless humans. Candle light peace protest for terror attacks in Mumbai While Hotel Taj, the iconic building, or Hotel Trident Oberoi, can be fixed, they are concrete structures after all, but people who have died or soldiers who lost their lives, should be respected. Peace to All!

I was doing a little research on AK-47s wanted to know what was the cost of it for these people to be able to use these assault rifles to carry out a mission like this.

From wiki on Ak-47s In some countries, prices for AKs are very low; in Somalia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Congo and Ethiopia, prices are between $30–$125 per weapon, and prices have fallen in the last few decades due to mass counterfeiting. Moisés Naím observed that in a small town in Kenya in 1986, an AK-47 cost fifteen cows but that in 2005, the price was down to four cows indicating that supply was "immense". The weapon has appeared in a number of conflicts including clashes in the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.

How safe do you feel living in a world where an assault rifle can be bought for $30?

Speaking about the media I personally was fried with the stupid questions Barkha Dutt was imposing on everyone.

hi brother,
whenever things like these happen im pretty sure it was organized and allowed by the indian govt....coz the indian govt recieved an alert...but stepped down security just before the attacks commenced....no solid proof though....just a hunch...its always planned according to some polotical party's baseless agenda...we didn't need that kind of battalion for 10 men...haha...it was a show...if we're aware we'll find out soon enough what purpose it served though!!

The purpose, they dont have any purpose except to kill people, cause insecurity and chaos. I read that at VT when the terrorists started to gun down people, the cops ran away. Can you believe that, and none of them had gund, only lathis at a main prime station of Mumbai. Its a shame!

I guess so many people were involved only because it was the Taj and Oberoi, the luxury hotels of Mumbai...if this had to happen some place else, I dont think forces would have been air-dropped from delhi and all...it was dramatized, no doubt!

Mumbai blasts were upsetting and revealed the real face of india's core weaknesses. They blamed it on intelligence but wait a minute, isn't intelligence a part of government? which means the government failed too! Other question which people are asking me is that is intelligence the only solution to curb terrorism? not really. Try as hard as you may but anyone can get through the best intelligence and security and the best evidence of this is that osama is still at large. Immediately after WTC attacks america learnt that without proper law it cannot even protect it's homeland. What followed later were new terrorism laws which aimed at preventing it rather than curing it so instead of concentrating on hollywood movie like black-dress-commandos it gave more powers to FBI and CIA which constantly kept a watch on activities of local moolahs and so called islamic scholars, some of which were backstabbing america by providing shelter, funds and logistic support to the terroist organizations. It can be argued that sometimes the american security agencies misused terrorist laws and harrased innocent moslems but if you look at the bigger picture they never allowed terrorists to set one foot in the great state of america. The world has to wake up to the phenomenon called as islamic terrorism which is far more inhuman than any other forms of war. Even if india is a mixed state which has good amount of moslem population they have to create laws if they want to see peace. Since islamic terror is a global phenomenon and india is not pardoned as it's majority population is hindus and some moslems cannot accept that and feel sidelined.. it has become a dangerous mix. The islamic community in the world is facing what it is supposed to face because even the intellectuals of this community are involved in terrorist activities and provide various forms of support so when it comes to common moslems, they will face the wrath of goverments and especially countries where moslem community is in minority, as moslem leaders themselves are involved in acts of terror. We cannot justify harrasement of innocent moslems but at the same time we cannot accept the killing of innocent people on the streets. The day shouldn't come where the world will be ruled by satanic moolahs. I fail to understand why the present indian government dismissed a good law called as POTA. Maybe there were some instances of misuse by police but unfortunately that is the case of this present day mad mad world and india has to accept the fact that some people will have to be forcibly spied to get important evidence so that it can avert the spilling of innocent people's blood on the streets which includes moslems too.
