Human Health will be Badly Affected by Global Warming

Rising temperatures will result in spread of MalariaWhen we talk about global warming, what would you generally talk about?

The glaciers are melting, the temperatures are rising, animals are getting extinct because of the climate change etc.

Have you thought about the human race? What consequences will it have on our health? Its a scary thought, to even look into the future, because future is not bright unless we take up the matter seriously.

"Long before we run out of oil, we will run out of atmosphere," said the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Mario Molina. Time will come when mosquitoes will be healthier than humans, increasing the risk of contracting Malaria.

The insect-borne disease is mostly confined to hot tropical areas, but when temperatures and sea levels rise, mosquitoes will be able to expand their range, while more heavy rains will give them more places to breed. The outcome - surge in chikungunya, dengue and malaria. Who will suffer? According to World Health Organization (WHO), the hardest hit countries will be poorer nations in Asia.

India will definitely be at the receiving end, considering the lack of proper medical facilities, poverty, food shortage, and more importantly, major lack of awareness.Floods, Monsoons, Heat Waves, Drought: Asia to be badly affected with climate change I came across a piece in one the dailies, mentioning the effect of the climate change on the human body. The situation is just going to get worse, its terrible to even think about what future generations will have to combat.

Ozone depletion can cause:

Skin Cancer
Cataract

Sea Level rise

Diarrhoea

Weather disasters

Poor sanitation
Infectious diseases and impact on fisheries
Malnutrition

Vector-borne diseases

Malaria
Dengue
Yellow fever

Marine diseases

Toxic algae
Cholera

Air Pollution

Respiratory disease

Heat effect

Heat-related mortality

According to World Health Organization (WHO), at least 150,000 more people are dying each year of malaria, diarrhoea, malnutrition and floods, and more than half of those deaths are in Asia.

Things are ought to change, its up to us to be prepared and contribute in our own small way by spreading awareness about this, or reducing carbon emissions. Imagine what difference will it make on the environment if people started using public transport to work, or even bikes. Today being World Health day, Mumbai contributed by declaring 'No Honking day' to cut down noise pollution, which can be such a nuisance.
There are many such ways we can help towards making it a healthier world.
