The Most Bizarre Diseases

Science doesn't have answers for many things in life. There is no explanation, but its just termed "bizarre". Just like in the case of this Indonesian fisherman, who has tree-like growths covering his body. He has roots growing out his hands and legs after he cut his knee in a teenage accident. Since then his wife has deserted him, he was fired from his job, and people call him The Tree Man.

Sooner rather than later, his terrible condition was brought to light by the media, and an American dermatologist, who said that he had never seen anything like this in his entire career, proposed a treatment that could end this poor man's misery. According to Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland, his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers. Unfortunately for Dede, he has a rare genetic fault due to which his body was unable to contain the warts.

But with daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A can reduce the size of warts to an extent where he can use his hands. I do hope this man can lead a more normal life.

Few more Bizarre Diseases:

These diseases are so rare, that I had not even heard of it, until I did some research to bring it to everyone's notice. They are more psychiatric disorders then physical deformity.

Walking Corpse Syndrome

A deluded person thinks that they have lost body parts or their souls, and often believe they have died. Also called Cotard's syndrome, the mental disease has been found in people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The person suffering from this disease also believes that they actually are a walking corpse, even maintaining that they can smell their own rotting flesh and can feel the worms eating at them.

Alice-in-Wonderland Syndrome
Alice in WonderlandPeople think that Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland, may have suffered from this condition himself. Their brain processes visual information despite the fact that there is nothing wrong with their eyes. Objects, humans, parts of humans and animals etc. are perceived as being much smaller than what they actually are in reality. For instance: looking at a pet dog and seeing it the size of a small mouse.

Jumping Frenchmen of Maine

Being extremely startled by an unexpected noise or sight is the main characteristic of this disorder. They will twitch if someone sneaks up behind them, flail their arms or repeat words. For instance: If you command them in a loud voice then the person will carry out that command instantly and without a thought, even if you tell them to hit out a loved one, or throw an object. That's a weird situation, probably, the US soldiers in Iraq are suffering from this disease.

Capgras Syndrome

This one is certainly scary. People suffering from this extremely rare syndrome believe that a loved one or an important person in their life is being impersonated by an impostor. In fact the sufferer can also go to the extent of attacking the perceived impostor or when they look in the mirror they believe that it is not their own reflection staring back at them but the image of an impersonator.

Blue Skin Disorder
Blue-coloured PeopleI have seen it in movies, but never knew something like this can occur in real life too. A big family simply known as the "blue people" lived in the hills around Troublesome Creek in Kentucky until the 1960s. They were the Blue Fugates. Most of them lived past the age of 80, with no serious illness - just blue skin. It is a rare hereditary blood disorder that results from excess levels of methemoglobin, which is blue in the blood. It is a nonfunctional form of the red haemoglobin that carries oxygen. The trait was passed on from generation to generation. People with this condition have blue, plum, indigo or almost purple skin. Such things have happened in life or will continue to happen. I guess that's why my mom says to be happy with what god has given you.
