Waking Life ~ The Movie

Hey, are you a dreamer? I haven't seen too many around lately. Things have been tough lately for dreamers. They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore. It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.Waking Life

Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists. The dreamer is banished to obscurity. Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too. By dreaming, every day. Dreaming with our hands and dreaming with our minds.

Our planet is facing the greatest problems it's ever faced, ever. So whatever you do, don't be bored, this is absolutely the most exciting time we could have possibly hoped to be alive and things are just starting..

Now that I have got your attention let me bring to your notice an animated movie that was produced in 2001 by Richard Linklater called Waking Life.Waking Life Main CharacterWaking Life Suicide

The film cannot be watched at one go and is the second film that I have encountered that needs to be stopped and watched again after a while because of the mental taxation it puts you through with the amount of concepts and ideas it walks you through. (The first being a documentary, Gambling, Gods and LSD)

The story is about a young man below who encounters people from various walks of life. He has indepth and not to mention mind-blowing conversations that question various aspects of the way we as a functional human race interact with each other and what has become of the world as we know it.

Along with some screen shots I have posted a few quotes from the film. I also recommend that you get yourself a copy and watch it. The animation if trippy a little psychedelic here and there but the conversations are what leaves you awestruck with a racing mind.

“The trick is to combine your waking rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams. Because, if you can do that, you can do anything.”
I Want Freedom! Waking Life!
A: “Excuse me.”
B: “Excuse me.”
A: “Hey. Could we do that again? I know we haven't met, but I don't want to be an ant. You know? I mean, it's like we go through life with our antennas bouncing off one another, continuously on ant autopilot, with nothing really human required of us. Stop. Go. Walk here. Drive there. All action basically for survival. All communication simply to keep this ant colony buzzing along in an efficient, polite manner. "Here's your change." "Paper or plastic?' "Credit or debit?" "You want ketchup with that?" I don't want a straw. I want real human moments. I want to see you. I want you to see me. I don't want to give that up. I don't want to be ant, you know?”Waking Life Conversation

“They say that dreams are only real as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?”

“Your life is yours to create.”

“Judge not lest ye be judged.”

“I want freedom! We have got to realize that we’re being conditioned on a mass scale. Start challenging this corporate slave state.”

The "I want freedom!" from the above quote has been used in a Psytrance track called Jungle Disco produced by Ocelot.

Sphongle, an ambient psy chill out artist has used the sample "Pick a color and the continuation of the dialogue as a sample in their track Botanical Dimensions.

I realize this is an old post, but ... I have a real issue with the 'transcript' at Drew's. Namely, it's a bit of a mess.

Check out the transcript I worked on, at http://strivinglife.com/waking-life-transcript-with-revisions/

Not only is it easier to read, it should be almost completely error-free, thanks to feedback from a number of great people.

By the way (feel free to delete this comment), on IE 7, the top bar with images from Flickr is displaying under the three columns.

I missed those the first time because of this. If you need more info, let me know ( strivinglife at gmail dot com ) and I'll post a screenshot on my site.

I'm not too aware of Blogspot's template system, but I'd assume it's an easy css fix.

Hey thanks for the tip the only problem is that, the coding is perfect if you use Opera or Firefox.

Since most people use IE, they wont be able to see the blog hows its suppose to be seen. But if you know a fix let me know :) Haha cauz im not too good with css. I also do not want to put in an extra effort when our blog is W3C compliant!
